The 26-year-old was laid to rest in Canandaigua. Gerken's body was carried from St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua.
While the sky outside the church was full of sunlight, family and friends are left in the dark. The young production foreman at a packing company went to a Buffalo Bills game last Thursday.
The Bills say he was ejected for disorderly conduct before 10pm. He never met up with his brother after the game and was found dead in a creek the next day behind the stadium.
His best friend of 10 years has a tough time knowing they'll never speak again. His friends have good memories of a man who loved the Miami Dolphins, rapped for run, and was a light in their lives.
The Bills won't go into more detail about why Gerken was ejected from last week's game. He was one of 94 fans ejected. Police say his death was accidential but the investigation is ongoing.
