Schroeder students make Thanksgiving donation

A group of seniors at Webster Schroeder High School have spent the last month taking care of the giving part of Thanksgiving.
The idea came from last year's senior project, a successful food donation to the Mt. Hope Family Center. This year, the school is restructuring the senior project, so five friends took it upon themselves to take up another collection. "We decided that we still wanted to do something to help out and volunteer, and do something to make a difference," said senior Tyler Deweese.
They collected food and money from fellow students, teachers, sports teams and clubs. "We went through the cafeteria during the lunch periods and asked anyone who wanted to donate if they wanted to get anything," said senior Kayla DiPinto.
Over the weekend the group shopped for turkeys and all the Thanksgiving trimmings. Monday morning they gathered to load up the food and take it to the Mt. Hope Family Center. "We also liked to make sure that, no matter what you donate, everything is appreciated, so whether it was coins, dollars, everything, so anything contributed was great," said senior Marco Debole.
The month long drive allowed for the assembly of 20 Thanksgiving dinners, to be given to low income families at the Mt. Hope Family Center, which studies the affects of trauma on human development and provides evidence-based clinical services. "Everyone that donated can sit down too knowing that they helped a good cause for people that otherwise wouldn't have been able to eat on Thanksgiving," said senior Brandi Bauer.
The effort could lead to another round of donations as well. "We also have money left over because we raised about $1,200 so we're hoping we can use that money to help out during Christmas and go buy toys for the Mt. Hope Family Center also," said senior Lindsay Curre.
