Officials put on some hard hats and lifted up golden shovels for the official groundbreaking of the RGRTA transit center in Rochester.

Work actually began on the Mortimer Street site in October.

It's a $50 million project that will change how bus customers get around.

There will be 30 bus bays that will allow 100 buses to get in and out every hour.

The center will be enclosed and including heating and air conditioning.

Original plans for a bus terminal began in 2004, but site locations were tough to pin down.

Now RGRTA officials say work is on schedule and on budget.

The project is expected to employ 400 construction workers and create 50 new jobs once the center is finished.

Opening is set for mid-2015.
