The Livingston County Sheriff's office is asking people to come together to donate foods for Sandy victims this holiday week.

It is part of a statewide initiative where sheriffs' offices are collecting non-perishable goods to help downstate storm victims. Nearly three weeks after Sandy hit, there are still New Yorkers without power and thousands more picking up the pieces from destroyed homes. The sheriffs are collaborating with the Salvation Army to gather new, inexpensive towels and blankets, flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable foods; everyday essentials to help out.

"We wanted to put a true reminder out that three weeks after Hurricane Sandy, many of our downstate neighbors are still suffering through that tragic loss, so we thought it was a great opportunity to do a statewide initiative to gather some supplies to send down for a week long period," Undersheriff James Szczesniak said.

In Livingston County, donations are being collected at the Sheriff's office on Court Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until November 27th.
