Eight of the 11 SUNY Geneseo female volleyball players accused of hazing have accepted plea deals.

The girls appeared in Geneseo Village Court Tuesday night. Under the conditions of the deal, the girls will have to do two weekends of community service through the Livingston County Sheriff's office. In addition, they will each have to set up two speaking engagements at local high schools to talk about their experience and the consequences of what Livingston County District Attorney Greg McCaffrey called an "ill-advised and stupid decision."

Police say the hazing incident happened at an off-campus party. One student was sent to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. As a result of the incident, school officials canceled the entire game season for the volleyball team. McCaffrey said the decision was best for everyone.

"It's what we could prove and what we do moving forward. I mean these girls got a substantial break here tonight, but moving on, let's try to turn a negative into a positive for this community," McCaffrey said.

The cases of the other three girls have been adjourned, but the DA says they will be offered the same deal.
