Red Cross Desperate for Donations

By: WROC-TV
Updated: November 3, 2012
Hurricane Sandy has left the Red Cross desperate for blood and platelet donations.

According to the Red Cross, Sandy forced them to cancel over 300 blood drives. Those cancellations have led to a shortfall of more than 12,200 blood and platelet donations across 14 states.

"Right now Sandy cut down a lot of Red Cross centers so a lot of us are taking extra so we can send them to those areas cause we need to keep up with the hospital demand," says Linda Utter, a collection specialist with the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is currently looking for all blood types. To see if you are eligible to donate, click here.
