Knighthawks Take a Stand Against Bullying

The Rochester Knighthawks paid a visit to Cosgrove Middle School to help spread awareness on bullying. It's part of the "We Got Your Back" program. On Wednesday, students had the chance to talk to two of their favorite players.

"If it's a problem for those kids, then it's a problem for us," said Joel White.

It started last season for the Knighthawks. That's when they decided to take a stand against bullying and spread the word to area students. Knighthawks player, Joel White, says it's a problem that's hard to ignore.

"The fact that it's such an up and coming thing in Rochester especially. It's devastating to us. It's hard to believe that there are kids who are injuring themselves because of bullying," said White.

On Wednesday, the Knighthawks made their first stop of the season at Cosgrove Middle School in Spencerport. Player Joe Walters shared his own personal experiences with bullying to the 6th grade class.

"Our main goal is to reiterate the issue and tell them not to be shy, stand up and tell someone when they do see it," said Joe Walters.

"Kids did great. They were excited about it. They not only wanted to listen to their message but then take the next step and sign a pledge against bullying," said Ned Dale, Cosgrove Middle School Principal.

During the school year, teachers at the middle school plan to reward students who stand up to bullying with two tickets to a Knighthawks game.
