As of 6 pm, more than 16,000 RG&E customers were reported without
power, most of those in Monroe County and another roughly 2,000 NYSEG
customers in Ontario, Wayne, Livingston, Steuben, Wyoming, and Yates
counties.
RG&E crews have been working on overdrive to get
electricity flowing again.
"We prepared for the worst, hopes
for the best and came out somewhere in the middle," said Dan
Hucko, RG&E Spokesperson.
Hucko said crews had been working since
dawn and would be working for 17 hours or more to restore power.
In
some cases, customers may have to be patient.
He said because 500
wires and nearly 30 poles broke during Sandy, they would need time to
replace them.
Hucko said some customers could see power restored
as soon as Tuesday night, others may have a day or two to wait.
RG&E
says wind was the main culprit for the damage it saw.
Areas
closest to the lake saw the most power outages, with Webster being
hit the hardest.
Greece, Penfield, Chili, and the City of
Rochester saw more than a thousand customers lose electricity.
Robyn
Burgio, a Greece resident, saw her lights go off around 2 am but it
returned at 9 am.
"We are very thankful," said Robyn
Burgio.
RG&E says if you want to have a better idea of when your
power will go back on check its website for estimated times.
