Local Area Prepares For Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is already affecting flights here in the Rochester area.

A number of flights in and out of Rochester's International Airport are delayed or cancelled. All three of New York's major airports have been shut down, and delays are stretching across the country. Several area school districts are cancelling events today.

The Rochester City School District has cancelled all afternoon activities. The East Rochester School District has cancelled all after-school and evening activities and events.

The Monroe County Office of Emergency Management has declared a state of emergency. The City of Rochester has also cancelled all evening activities.

The Red Cross is opening shelters in Monroe County.
They include locations at the Dome Arena in Henrietta at 2695 East Henrietta Road.
The Brighton Presybeterian Church is also open at 1775 East Avenue in Rochester.
Also included are the Sweden Senior Center, 133 State Street, Brockport, Webster Rec Center at 1350 Chiyoda Drive in Webster, and Greece Olympia High School at 1139 Maiden Lane, Rochester, NY 14615
