Sometimes it's just your year.

One week after surprising (3)Victor in Section Five's "Fog Bowl", (6)Canandaigua stunned previously unbeaten (2)Brockport 35-14 in the Class A Sectional Semifinals at Sahlen's Stadium Friday night.

The turning point of the game actually began with a Braves' mistake.

Trailing 14-7 late in the first half, Canandaigua may have gotten a bit greedy trying a deep pass from their own 35 yard line. Denzel Knight made the interception and returned it to the Braves 30. There were 20 seconds left in the 2nd quarter--more than enough time for a polished QB like Tom Sydeski.

However, Jaymin Ransom stepped in front of Sydeski's first pass and ran the interception back 92 yards for a game tying touchdown with only four seconds left in the half.

Turning point number two came early in the third quarter. Brockport was driving for a go ahead touchdown facing a 4th and 1 at the Canandaigua 15. The Blue Devils tried Knight straight ahead, but Ransom stopped him cold and the Braves had it back.

Late in the quarter, Austin Coyne converted 3rd and 5 with a 35 yard toss to Anthony Pagliano that got the Braves inside the Brockport 20. Early in the 4th, Ransom gave CA their first lead with a three yard touchdown that was more dive than run.

The Blue Devils tried a reverse on the ensuing kickoff, but mangled it badly and Canandaigua recovered. Moments later, Coyne found Sean Outhouse on a 12 yard TD hookup and the lead was 28-14.

Brockport quickly became desperate and failed on another 4th and short to end their next possession. Ransom scored on a 15 yard scamper with three minutes to play and that was the game.

Ransom ended with 99 total yards of offense plus the three touchdowns. Outhouse added a first half TD run to his second half TD catch.

Knight led Brockport with 103 yards rushing and a touchdown. Sydeski passed for 136 yards and the other Blue Devil TD.

Canandaigua moves on to play the top seed, Eastridge, in the next Friday's Class A Final. The Lancers narrowly avoided an upset themselves by recovering a fumble in the end zone on 4th and goal from the one in the 2nd OT of their 27-24 win over McQuaid.
