Rescuers got the call around 9 p.m. Thursday. The hikers were in Clark's gully near the southern end of Canandaigua Lake. The hikers called 911 when it got too dark for them to find their way back. Naples fire crews were able to get the hikers out with ropes within an hour. Naples Fire Chief Patrick Elwell says the hikers did almost everything right.
"Your best bet is, if you get into trouble, just stay put and call 911 and let us come and find you. It's quicker and easier to do that then get yourself in deeper trouble and then not be able to call for help and not to be able to alet us to where we can get to you," Elwell said.
None of the three hikers were injured.
