Big news for the Buffalo Bills and a major plan that could move the team to Downtown Buffalo.
The new proposed 167-acre stadium, convention center and museum complex would cost a whopping $1.4 billion dollars.
The group behind the plan, The Greater Buffalo Sports and Entertainment ComPlex, presented it to the Buffalo Common Council Tuesday afternoon.
At the presentation, the group asked the council to help secure the land before approaching the Buffalo Bills and the NFL. The group also revealed that the plan includes 30 percent public funding, or about $400 million over 30 years.
The centerpiece of the proposed complex would be a 72,000 seat retractable roof stadium, that developers hope the Buffalo Bills would make their own.
Fans say the team certainly needs a new place to play, but this plan may be a bit ambitious.
Doug Bibbee of Henrietta said "It might be hard to get through to some of the taxpayers because obviously right now the economy is really hard. And where are they gonna come up with that extra money to do that?"
Greg Houppert of Webster added "It definitely will cost the taxpayers money but...It usually breaks even at least. And then the locale gets all the revenue from tourists and travel and entertainment and hotels. So I think it'd be a good idea."
"The Strong" group also has an interest in the complex.
A statement from President and C.E.O. G. Rollie Adams says The Greater Buffalo Sports and Entertainment ComPlex approached The Strong and asked if they would be interested in creating and operating a museum as one of the principal anchors.
The North American Museum of Sports and Culture would focus on sports, play, competition, and character and include all sports of the region-from football and hockey to fishing and boating and everything in between.
The Strong plans to reveal more details at a press conference on Wednesday.
