Thursday alternative vehicles were on display at Monroe Community College's Applied Technology Center.
It's an opportunity to see the latest and greatest "green" cars.

Students at Alfred State College have gotten a hands-on lesson in going green.  They built a hybird car.  It's one of many on display as part of the National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey.

"The students built the red Honda Insight for a fuel economy challenge at Watkins Glen International Speedway for the green grand prix," says Jim Fleischman of Alfred State College.

The car is a hybrid it uses gasoline and an electric battery pack.
Vinny Albert helped build it, "We put the car together, lowered it, modified it, took weight out of it and ended up getting 89.6 miles to the gallon at Watkins Glen."

The Odyssey is put on, in part, by the U.S Department of Energy.
David Keefe says, "what we're really trying to do through clean cities is reduce petroleum.   That's what it's all about through a number of strategies.  It could be alternative fuels like propane, gas or electric, or just things like anti-idling or reducing the number of miles you drive in your regular car."

This is the third time this event has been held in Rochester.
Keefe adds, "it's a celebration of alternative fuel vehicles.  Trying to promote them, display them, these are going on all over the country today."

This was one of 160 alternative fuel events happening across the country.
