Police are not yet releasing the identity of a man shot at his Wayne County House.
The Newark man was airlifted to the hospital and was recovering from surgery as of 3pm on Friday.
The shooting happened at 608 Silver Hill Road in Newark.
Newark Police say it all started with a knock at the front door of the home.
It was 5 in the morning.
A visitor was told to go around back.
"When the victim got to the back door, he saw the person had a weapon. He turned to flee back into house and the perpetrator shot through the door," said Chief David Christler, Newark Police.
Police say the 42-year old man inside the home was shot in the upper leg area.
Mercy Flight took him to Strong Hospital.
"It was a very serious injury, the slug went through and there was a tremendous amount of blood loss," said Chief Christler.
Newark Police said that they have been called to the victim's home at least one other time for a domestic disturbance involving the victim and people who did not live here.
It's unknown if the instances are related.
The victim's stepfather, girlfriend, and landlord were also home at the time.
News 8 spoke with the stepfather who said he did not know who the suspect was.
Police say the shooter fled but this was not random.
"I don't believe there is a danger to the community. It's a situation where the victim knew the perpetrator or was doing some sort of business with perpetrator," said Chief Christler.
Police say they plan to talk with the victim soon to learn more about the person they should be looking for.
Anyone with information is asked to give them a call at 315-331-3701.
