Athena jumped out to a 17-3 halftime lead with a dominating first half that included Frankie Carnavale finding Ryan Prevost for a 44 yard TD pass.
Spencerport answered with three straight TDs in the second half. The first scoring drive was keyed by a Jake O'Connell 45 yard run. Egenlauf scored the first two touchdowns and Geoffrey Dear gave the Rangers a 24-17 4th quarter lead on a 25-yard scoring jaunt.
The Trojans finally answered when John Hampton scored for the second time in the game, but the PAT was no good and Spencerport had a one-point lead.
O'Connell's halfback option TD pass to Devan Pascoe gave the Rangers an 8-point 4th quarter lead, but they couldn't hold it.
Carnavale led a quick TD drive that ended with a scoring pass to Prevost. Hampton caught the tying two-point pass and the game was even at 31 with just over three minutes left.
It was enough time for Spencerport to get in range for a 38-yard field goal try by Brett Renzi with eight seconds left. The kick was dead center, but nailed the crossbar square and bounced back to the three yard line.
In overtime, Athena missed a 37 yard field goal after failing to move the ball on their possession. Two plays later, Egenlauf was in and the game was over.
O'Connell led the Rangers with 129 yards rushing while Egenlauf and Dear each had 101 yards.
Prevost ended up with six catches for 148 yards and the two touchdowns.
