It happened around 6 p.m. Thursday along Penfield Road at the corner of Watson Road. Monroe County Sheriff deputies say James Maher, 65, was driving west on Route 441 about to make a left turn. Maher's vehicle was struck by an oncoming car. Maher's wife was in the backseat and was ejected from the car. Ellen Maher, 49, was rushed to Strong Hospital with life-threatening injuries. A child was also in the back seat of one of the vehicles. Fire crews say the child was buckled in a car seat and was not seriously hurt.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
