Brockport Murder Victim Identified

The SUNY Brockport student who was found murdered in her dorm room has been identified.
Monroe County Sheriff's office says the victim in 19-year-old Alexandra Kogut of New Hartford New York.
Kogut was found in her dorm room after her mother requested a well-being check. Her mother was unable to reach her by phone.
University Police found Kogut in her room at McLean hall on the campus between 1 and 2:30 Saturday morning.
21 year old Clayton Whittemore of New Hartford, New York is charged in the case.
Police say they took Whittemore into custody around 3:30 Saturday morning at a rest stop in Dewitt, New York.
Police say Whittemore was dating the Kogut.
Whittemore was arraigned at 3 Saturday afternoon in Sweden, New York. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond in the Monroe County Jail.
Whittemore will be back in court on October 4th at 1 p.m. for his preliminary hearing.

"Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to
be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was
truly infectious and she will forever be missed. Her family is very
grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love
and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors.
They ask that their privacy be respected during this time of grief. The
family will make no further comment."
