Geva Theatre is turning 40. In those four decades the theatre has left a mark on both Rochester and the country's thespian community.
The theatre was founded in 1972. This year will put on its 500th production and welcome its 4 millionth patron.
Geva started as a lunch time theatre and for its 40th anniversary will bring back lunch time readings. The readings will last for 40 minutes and begin at 12:15. The first play reading is on September 27th and October 4. The other two will take place in March.
More than 5,000 actors, directors and designers have helped with Geva productions. Famous actors like Philip Seymour Hoffman were inspired by Geva performances. Household names like Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson worked there at the beginning of their careers. Many actors have also moved on to work on Broadway following a stint at the local theatre.
