Alpina Foods is part of the yogurt boom that has taken over Western New York.

Alpina Foods chose Batavia as its first location in the United States. The $20 million facility created 30 jobs with at least 20 more on the way.

The South American yogurt maker celebrated the official grand opening at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park.

Alpina's CEO, Julian Jaramillo, says the company saw an opportunity to start a branch in the United States, and specifically in Batavia.

On top of the dozens of jobs created in this one facility, Alpina Foods will help local dairy and fruit farmers.

Batavia is the 10th global manufacturing facility for the company.

Another yogurt plant, that is a joint venture between Pepsi Co. and Theo Muller, is expected to bring 186 jobs to the park soon.
