Benefits For Service Dogs In Jeopardy for Veterans

By: WROC-TV
Updated: September 17, 2012
The Department of Veterans Affairs may soon stop paying benefits for war veterans who need service dogs to help them battle post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. '

That is according to New York Senator Charles Schumer. He opposes the move, saying now is the wrong time to impose a change as more veterans return home from combat. The department has said it wants to complete a study of service dogs and their effects on veterans. The department expects to finish that study in 2014.
