"For me personally it's hard to remember this every year, but yet we have to do that," Cyndy says. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, Cyndy Duffy was attending bible study at Pittsford Community Church when the first plane flew into the Twin Towers. Her husband Tom was at the World Trade Centers, attending a meeting for his job at Marsh and McLennan.
Neither Cyndy, nor her sons Jason or Ryan, were able to reach him.
Tom Duffy was smart and fun-loving. "He was happy. People loved being with him," Cyndy says. Tom adored his family and doted on his first grandson, Dylan. It's that same deep love that has helped Cyndy and her family heal in the days and weeks and years after Tom's death.
Cyndy now has three grandchildren and is as active in her church as ever. In the years since 9/11, she has marked this day quietly with her sons and her church family, in New York City and here at home. For her, September 11th triggered deep grief, but even deeper faith.
