U.S. Army Veteran, Josh Merrell, needs your help getting his best friend back. Raven is a 3-year-old Black Labrador. She was with him when he got into a crash Sunday at the intersection of Routes 332 and 96 in Farmington. Raven slipped out of her collar and ran away.
"I went to try to get out of my door. My door was completely crushed. I couldn't get out so I had to jump over the seat belts, run out the drivers side and the last of my worries was my own body. I didn't feel it until about four hours later," said Merrell.
Raven was last seen running North toward the thruway. Josh is a veteran who suffers from PTSD. Raven helps him cope with anxiety and depression.
"I had a rough life the past four years. She's a friend. When you are alone, you have all those thoughts but she's always there, always attentive. I slept on the couch several nights sick and she was next to me every night. She doesn't leave my side," said Merrell.
There have been several sightings since the accident, but Josh says no one has been able to get close enough.
Dozens of people have helped by putting flyers up from Canandaigua to Victor.
"Makes me have faith in humanity again. It's just nice to see that there is so many people wanting to help," said Merrell.
Josh remains hopeful.
"She's my personal service dog. She helps me more than anyone. I have been on medications. I have been through therapy. I have been through a million different things and she's the only thing that has worked," said Merrell.
If you see Raven, call 911 or Animal Control. Josh says timing is critical since his best friend is most likely hungry and confused.
