The Monroe County Crime Lab is getting some much needed help. In Monroe County, there are hundreds of cases currently backlogged, waiting on crucial DNA testing. Now, it's getting nearly $300,000 from the justice department to help get these cases moving. This means the results of that DNA testing will get to prosecutors much quicker.
"It will help us catch up, because it will provide resources that we don't have right now to do some of the things I mentioned. Maintain equipment, get out staff the latest training and provide some supplies," says Stephen Bowman, the Director of Public Safety.
Right now the backlog at the Monroe County Crime Lab is some 600 cases.
