Section of Erie Canal To Reopen Thursday

Boaters should be able to navigate a 25-mile stretch of the Erie Canal again beginning Thursday.
The canal had to be drained earlier this month after damage to a large culvert pipe caused part of the bank to collapse. A large portion of the pipe had to be replaced. It is located about nine feet under the bottom of the canal, so all the water was drained. The portion of the canal between Middleport in Niagara County and Holley in Orleans County remains off limits.
