The two men shot on Joseph Avenue Friday Night after allegedly assaulting an off-duty Rochester Police Officer are now facing assault charges.
22-year-old Jamal Dixon pleaded not guilty this morning in city court.
Court documents say Dixon, and a second suspect, 22-year-old Kalib Gladney, punched Santiago in the face as he sat in this car.
Santiago says it all started when he was driving home from work Friday night, and was rear-ended by the suspects.
After following them for several blocks, Santiago claims they stopped, approached his car and began punching him.
According to court documents, thee 22-year-old Gladney assaulted Santiago with a beer bottle, tearing his cornea.
That's when Santiago fired multiple times, hitting both men.
Officer Santiago was treated and released from the hospital, the injury to his eye could permantly affect his vision.
Police say when Santiago recovers and returns to work he'll be placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
