RPD Welcomes Largest Class of Recruits in Recent History

Rochester Police are welcoming their largest class of minorities in recent history. Typically, minorities make up less then 25% of the class, but this year they make up 57% of the class.
The new recruits took their oath Monday. The Academy class has 28 recruits, 16 of which are minorities.
Rochester Police Chief Sheppard said recruits come from local and out of state colleges, as well as, the military. He says having a diverse group is something Mayor Richards and City Council have strived for in recent years.
City Council President, Lovely Warren, says its a phenomenal achievement and shows the hard work of the recruiting unit.
The Academy class for the recruits is set to begin August 1st.
