Updated: July 30, 2012
There are new city police officers that will be hitting the streets soon, and they are being called the most diverse class of officers.

City officials were on hand Monday to welcome 28 new recruits into the Rochester Police force. Of those 28, 16 of them (57%) are from minority groups. This is a major improvement for the police department, which usually sees a minority representation below 25 percent. Police Chief James Sheppard and members of City Council visited various community events and churches, trying to encourage people to apply for the police academy.

The new officers will hit the streets on August 1st.
