Wayne County Many Given Maximum Sentence for Abusing Baby

You have no redeeming qualities. That's what Wayne County Judge Dennis Kehoe said before issuing the maximum sentence.

"He knew exactly what he did," Wayne County District Attorney Richard Healy said. "He may have been abused and I feel bad about that, but none of this was an excuse for such a crime."

Dallas received the maximum sentence for sexually abusing a 9-month-old baby last November.

Tuesday in Lyons, the district attorney said the baby's injuries were so bad she had to have multiple surgeries at Strong Hospital. Doctors say she almost died but is doing better now.

During the sentencing, the judge said Dallas is a danger to society and ordered him not to have any future contact with the victim.

"It's really awful what happened to him, It's really awful what happened to the baby too," Defense Attorney Bruce Chambers said. "If I was in the judge's position I probably would have given the same sentence."

The baby is now in foster care and is expected to make a full recovery.
