Schumer Calling For Resources To Combat Armyworms

By: WROC-TV
Updated: July 9, 2012
Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help farmers whose crops have suffered because of armyworms.

Schumer wants the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to advise on controlling measures and preventative measures for farmers who may not have dealt with the armyworm problem. Experts say storm systems brought the armyworm larvae into our area quite early, allowing them to advance more rapidly than expected.

If the problem is not handled, local farmers say there will be a second and possibly third wave of infestation, causing further damage to crops.
