The 4th of July will keep area firefighters extra busy today.
Many people headed home from parades to family barbeques. The Brighton Fire Department shared several tips with us for keeping those events safe.
First, Chief Stephen MacAdam says to keep your grill a safe distance from the house and leave nothing unattended. The Chief also says that pools pose a serious threat to children, when not used carefully. So, he urges all parents to surpervise their kids, as they cool off.
Keeping cool is also a concern for adults, too. The Brighton Fire Department expects to recieve additional medical calls related to the excessive heat. The best advice, for people enjoying the sun, is to stay hydrated.
Lastly, the firefighters want to discourage people from igniting fireworks at home. There are a number of fireworks displays around the Rochester area. Chief MacAdam hopes local residents will leave the displays to the professionals.
