Congress voted last week to lower interest rates for undergraduate students. In order for that to happen, graduate students will have to be denied eligibility for subsidized Stafford loans starting in June 2013. The SUNY Student Assembly says this move makes it so that graduate students will not have their interest deferred when they take out loans. In addition, undergraduate students will have to start paying back their loans right after graduation.
The assembly is calling on Congress to re-think their decision and come up with a better solution.
