Family Gathers to Remember Bay St. Fire Victim

An elderly woman died in a house fire on Bay Street Sunday morning.

Family members identify her as 72-year-old Airistine Gibson. 

Firefighters were called to 762 Bay Street after neighbors reported the fire around 2 a.m.

The Rochester Fire Department says that three firefighters were injured while trying to rescue the elderly woman. One firefighter has second degree burns and is not on duty due to his injuries. The second firefighter has minor sprains and is not on duty due to his injuries. The third firefighter has minor injuries and is back on duty.

Three other people were able to escape the fire.

No smoke detectors were activated.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

At this time, officials are unsure if the house will be torn down.
