On Tuesday night the village of Brockport formalized the agreement to move control of the fire department to the district from the village. Leaders say the transition will be seamless. People who live in Brockport, Sweden, and Clarkson likely won't even notice the change.
The Brockport Fire Department always covered all three towns, the difference now is that the village will no longer handle the fire department's budget. The decision to establish the district was made by voters last November.
A five person board of commissioners now oversees it to be sure all of the towns have a say in how money is spent when emergencies happen.
To help with needs, Tuesday night's agreement also included a transfer of $600,000 in reserve money, as well as the ownership of buildings and equipment.
