The unofficial vote was 548 "no" and 466 "yes" , absentee ballots have yet to be counted so the result won't become official until Wednesday morning. This all stems from a dispute between the mayor and the police chief.
Nearly 40% of the 2,601 registered voters in the Village cast ballots on this referendum which gained public interest after Mayor Castaneda was arrested in March by police Chief Dan Varrenti's department and charged with violating the village code at her home. That case is still pending. For now, Castaneda is pleased the voters supported her authority.
