Need an X-ray or some blood work? There will be no surprises. Now, you can find out the cost before heading to the hospital.
About 40,000 uninsured patients come to Rochester General Hospital a year, now those patients can find out exactly how much they will need to pay before receiving treatment.
The hospital launched the new website Monday.
There you can find prices for uninsured patients in more than 100 procedures in twelve categories. From labor and delivery charges to emergency department charges, the website provides exact prices.
John Midolo is the Vice President of Finance at Rochester General Health System.
He says as insurance premiums get higher, some patients choose to go without insurance.
"Typically small businesses will do that, or younger healthier people who think that they can take the risk, then when they need to come to the hospital, they of course are looking for what the pricing is going to be," said Midolo.
Midolo says the website is targeted for uninsured patients, but soon the prices will expand for patients who are insured.
