The town has not added a town justice position since 1982, but officials say increasing case numbers mandate the addition of another. In 1990, the town handled a little over 10,000 cases, but now that number has surpassed 18,000. In addition, Greece officials say another town judge will help expedite the issuance of warrants and the conclusion of cases.
Voters in Greece will vote on the measure in November. If approved, the judge will have to be elected by November 2013 and take office in January 2014.
