The 72nd Monroe Invitational Classic from Monroe Golf Club saw low scores high in demand but hard to come by. Only 13 golfers shot under par in the opening round. David Denlinger grabbed seven birdies and a single bogey on his way to a low-round 64. His -6 score puts him three strokes ahead of Taylor Pendrith. Denlinger currently attends Charleston Southern University and is a member of their golf team.

Several golfers also have ties to the Rochester area. Trevor Sluman sits tied for third at -3. The Rochesterian attends Binghamton University and is the nephew of fellow-Rochesterian and PGA Championship winner Jeff Sluman.
