More teachers are being laid off from the district than the number that was originally announced. In May the board said five teachers would lose their jobs. Now more than 17 teachers will be impacted by the layoffs. The board says they are laying people off because of lower enrollment numbers in kindergarten. The teachers' union says they are frustrated with the district's decision.
The district says if there are further issues with enrollment they will call teachers back to work or lay more staff members off accordingly.
