Former Nurse's Assistant in Medina Arrested

The Medina Police Department has arrested and charged a former nurse's assistant for allegedly abusing an elderly patient at Medina Memorial Hospital in May.

Family members of an elderly woman brought their allegations to police on May 13th.  They say 24-year old Tamara Jefferies, who was working as a nurse's assistant, grabbed the victim by the neck and arm, and shoved her into a chair.

Tamara Jefferies was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors on May 25th after investigators asked her to come in for questioning.

A spokesperson for the hospital issued this statement:

"We have conducted a thorough investigation on the allegation that a nursing assistant roughly handled a patient. Our health system has a zero tolerance policy regarding patient abuse and neglect. The associate involved in this incident is currently no longer employed. Orleans Community Health remains committed to providing safe and high quality care to the community we serve."

Jefferies appeared in court Monday morning in Orleans County, she has been charged with endangering the welfare of a physically disabled person and 3rd degree assault.
