The Knights took the lead in the third inning thanks to the bottom of the order. Drew Garcia and Ozzie Martinez singled and doubled respectively to start the inning and an RBI by Greg Golson and Tyler Kuhn made it 2-0 Charlotte.
Consecutive hits by Dan Johnson, Josh Phegley, and Jordan Danks made it 3-0 Knights in the sixth. Ray Olmedo stayed hot with an RBI double that scored Phegley and made it 4-0. Olmedo now has a nine-game hitting streak.
On Sunday, the Wings did not get a runner past second base in a 1-0 loss to Gwinnett. Pedro Florimon's 9th inning home run ended a streak of 19 innings where the Wings did not get even a single runner to third base.
Game 2 of the series is Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at Knights Stadium. The Knights will send Dylan Axelrod (4-1, 1.20) to the mound to square off with Nick Blackburn, who is down from the Minnesota Twins on a Major League rehab assignment.
