Judge Gives Mixed Ruling on Kodak Patent Infringement Claim

By: WROC-TV
Updated: May 22, 2012
A judge ruled today that Kodak's patents having to do with image previewing technology were infringed upon by Apple and Blackberry-maker RIM.

The ruling comes from an administrative law judge at the International Trade Commission. The judge ruled that Apple and Research in Motion infringed on Kodak's patented technology with certain models of the iPhone and Blackberry smartphones. But the catch is that the judge also recommended Kodak's patent claim to be found invalid. That could mean no monetary compensation for Kodak. Kodak argues the picture-previewing technology in question is fundamental to how these smartphones capture digital images.

Kodak continues to hold out hope, citing a similar win with a patent case against Samsung.
