We got a News 8 Golden Apple request from a young man who asked us to "consider a letter from a small boy that carries a powerful message." We surprise Melanie Cody at Bloomfield Elementary School.

Mrs. Cody was nominated by 6th Grader Gordon Kornbau. He returned from the Middle School to help us with our surprise. Gordon says Mrs. Cody changed his life and his attitude about school.

Melanie Cody was reading with students and had no idea what was going on when we walked into her classroom.

Mrs. Cody has been a teacher 16 years. The past 15 in Bloomfield. "Well I just love working with kids and seeing kids learn new things everyday is just very exciting. So you can't have a better job."

Principal Mary Sue Bennett says "She's really incredibly skillful at establishing positive, caring relationships with her students. and she follows them. She keeps track of them."

What does it mean to Melanie that a former student would ask us to come and say thank you to his favorite teacher? "Wow it's very touching. Gordon is a very special young man and he's touched me in many ways too. He just loves learning and it's an honor to teach kids like him."

Melanie Cody is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the wonderful letter we got from Gordon nominating her below.
