A quick look at Tuesday's Red Wings game, and it seems like Joe Thurston should wear the goat horns, but that wouldn't be fair.

Thurston's error allowed the go-ahead run to score in the 8th and then he struck out with the bases loaded in the 9th as Rochester lost for the 7th straight time, 5-2 against the Empire St. Yankees at Frontier Field.

It was the fifth game between the two where Rochester was the road team.

The Wings had ten hits, but left runners on in scoring position at the end of five different innings.

Thurston's error came on the play that gave Empire St. the lead for good, but it may not have been relevant. With two outs and runners on first and second in the 8th, Dewayne Wise hit a seeing-eye bouncer up the middle that ricocheted off of Thurston's leg and into center field.

The play was scored an infield hit and an error that allowed the run to score. However, Steve Pearce was the next hitter and he seared a liner into the Yankees bullpen for a three-run homer. It gave Empire State a 5-1 lead and would have scored the run that came in on Thurston's error anyway.

Rochester mounted a ninth inning rally with two singles and two walks to score a run, but Thurston waved at a 2-2 breaking pitch in the dirt to end it.

The Wings wasted a strong start from Daryl Thompson. He pitched six innings plus, allowing one run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Casey Fien got the loss because he put the go-ahead run on base with a walk to Doug Bernier, but otherwise pitched well. Fien came on in the 7th with runners on first and third and no outs, but quickly ended the inning with a double play and a groundout. The Yanks did score to tie the game at 1-1, but it was a commendable performance considering the situation.

It was Tyler Robertson who allowed a walk, an infield single and the homer to Pearce that blew the game open.

Rochester took the lead in the fifth inning when Ben Revere hammered a double over the center fielder's head to score catcher Rene Rivera all the way from first base.

The two teams continue their four-game series Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night.
