Toronto's Nazem Kadri scored
7:13 into the first period, and the tally stood as the only goal in the
contest as the Marlies outlasted the Rochester Americans by
a score of 1-0 in front of 6,414 fans at The Blue Cross Arena on
Saturday night.
The
Amerks head out to Western Canada on Tuesday, April 3 for the first of
back-to-back tilts with the Abbotsford Heat at the Abbotsford
Entertainment and Sports Centre. Game
time is slated for 10:00 p.m.
The
loss moved the Amerks to 9-4-2-1 over their last 16 games. Rochester
outshot the Marlies 23-14 over the game's final 40 minutes.
Both
goaltenders produced stellar performances between the pipes for their
respective clubs, with Toronto's Mark Owuya denying all 27 Amerks shots
to earn his second shutout
of the season. Amerks netminder David Leggio finished with 28 saves
while starting for the 16th consecutive game.
"I
think this whole (upcoming) week (in Abbotsford) is a good push for our
team," said Head Coach Ron Rolston. "It will be great for us to get out
of Rochester and be together
because it is going to be the most important time of the year for our
team."
Kadri's
goal, his third in the past two games, was set up by defenseman
Korbinian Holzer, who pinched in from his point position to the left
circle and found the second-year
forward streaking toward the net for the goal, which turned out to be
the difference in the game.
