"All types of metal, automobiles we'll recycle, old appliances we will recycle, copper, aluminum, brass, car batteries, anything you can think of there is a way to recycle it and put it back into the system so it doesn't go into the landfill," says Aaron Weiner, the GM of Ben Weitsman of Rochester.
Lots of businesses recycle metal bye-products. But they've also been reaching out to homeowners.
"We want the homeowner to come out see what a recycling center is, bring in materials and learn about it," Weiner explains.
Once all of the metals are sorted they are taken away in trucks to the places that need them.
"They melt it down and make it into a new, usable product for another type of company to make new equipment," Weiner says.
Everything from soda cans, to auto parts. In 2011 the company handled 55 million tons of materials across North America.
"We feel good doing our part, keeping things out of the landfill. There's no need to send them there. They are renewable, reusable resources."
