Penfield Girls Fall in State Final

By: Wendy Halik
Updated: December 3, 2012
After dispelling their first 24 opponents of the season, the Penfield Patriots ran into their toughest challenge of the year, coming up short 62-48 to Cicero-North Syracuse in the Class AA state championship.

Played at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, the Patriots had a large fan section, but nothing was going to stop CNS star Breanna Stewart, the Gatorade National Player of the year and New York's Ms. Basketball.

CNS scored the first ten points of the game and never looked back. Stewart, who has a scholarship to play at UConn next year, finished the game with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 13 blocked shots. CNS has won back-to-back state championships.

With the loss, Penfield ends the season at 24-1.
