AQ, Kearney, Batavia ND Boys Headed To Final Four

Aquinas closed the game on a 15-2 run to come from behind and beat Niagara Falls 57-49 in the Class AA State Quarterfinals Saturday night at Buffalo State.

Phil Valenti and Jamaal Pardner combined to score the first ten points of the run, giving the Lil' Irish the lead for good.

Valenti finished with 30 points to top all scorers, while Pardner chipped in ten.

Bishop Kearney didn't have near the same struggle at Class A, romping past East Aurora 64-43 at Buffalo State.

Freshman Thomas Bryant wowed the crowd with multiple dunks and led the Kings with 15 points. Redell Freeman and Chinonso Obokoh added 13 apiece.

Batavia Notre Dame will make it a hat trick of private schools heading to Albany. The Irish won the opener at Buffalo State in Class D, 62-51 over Panama.

Doane McCulley made four three's and scored 16 points and Tim McCulley led all scorers with 21 for Notre Dame.

Aquinas, Kearney and Notre Dame all next play Saturday in the state semifinals from the Glens Falls Civic Center.

East Rochester jumped out to an 11-3 second quarter lead, but OTC Middle School responded with a 20-4 run to close out the first half on their way to a 53-36 win the Class C game.

The Bombers were never closer than seven points in the fourth quarter. Nick Nadeau led the Bombers with nine points.

Wayland-Cohocton led the Class B final by two late in the third quarter, but gave up a bucket at the buzzer and the first five points of the fourth as Olean bounced back to win 47-39.

Andy Englert had four three-pointers and led the Eagles with 18 points.
