"With the holiday season upon us and Christmas just around the corner we are glad to partner with the USMC 'Toys for Tots' program to help bring a smile to someone's face on that special day," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "We are very appreciative of all the US Armed Forces and what they do to for us and we are especially proud of the generosity of our Knighthawks fans who are really the ones that make events like this one a success."
The Knighthawks have partnered with the USMC's "Toys for Tots" drive in an effort to provide Christmas gifts to the needy children of the Greater Rochester Area and the surrounding communities. Fans can drop off a new, unwrapped toy to the Marines in the arena that evening. Kids can also meet Santa Claus one week prior to his big night delivering gifts around the world to all the good girls and boys.
Prior to the 7:00 p.m. game, the Knighthawks will honor the founders of The Original General Sarge: Dr. Rus Jeffrey and his wife, Sandra. The couple will be accompanied by their son, PFC Benjamin Jeffrey. His bear, General Sarge, was the inspiration for the campaign that provides Build-A-Bear Workshop animals to families of fallen heroes, to heroes wounded in action, or to military family children. The Knighthawks donated 11 bears to the General Sarge Gift-A-Bear Campaign in late November to be deployed to US military children around the world.
Tickets for the preseason game are FREE and available at the Knighthawks Office or online at www.knighthawks.net. The game is first come, first serve. For more information, please call (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday, January 21st against the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks are holding their Millionth Fan Promotion, which includes a trip for two to Las Vegas (hotel, airfare and $2,000 cash).
