Nicholas Bjorling has a big, rich bass. "Old Man River" is one of the first songs he performed at Canandaigua Academy, and he loves it to this day.

"It's a deep song, I have a deep voice," he says. "I sang it then and it fit like a glove, ever since freshman year."

Nicholas has achieved the rare feat of being accepted into the American Choral Directors Association Honors Choir, three years in a row. He's sung in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Providence, Rhode Island. Here at home, he was one of just two local students to perform with the RPO Pops in their production of South Pacific In Concert.

"Nicholas is the student that every conductor hopes to be able to conduct some day," says Amy Story, Vocal Director at Canandaigua Academy. "He can always be counted on to have his part, always be counted on to be there. He's just really a standout."

Nicholas is a natural leader, in academics, sports and the arts. "Just have fun, take it while it lasts," he says. "When you're singing, just give it your all. If you're having fun you're going to do your best." Next year, he'll attend college out west. He's not sure what he'll study, but music or not, Nicholas will always be able to rely on his incredible, resonant voice.
