"Everyone is in a holding pattern waiting for U.S. Soccer to make a decision," said Scott Vallow, Assistant Coach of The Western New York Flash. Vallow says there are investors interested in starting teams, but they need time to organize. If the waiver is rejected WPS would lose its Divison I status. "Being sanctioned Divison I is important to maintain the corporate sponsors and elite players," said Vallow. He is hoping people will log online and sign their petition appealing to U.S. Soccer officials to keep the league going. "You're talking about heroes. Role models. You're talking about an exciting event in your backyard," said Vallow.
The WPS could keep playing if the waiver is rejected, but as Division 2 teams. Vallow says it would be difficult to attract the same players. U.S. Soccer is expected to make a decision in a few weeks.
